Welcome

I am Mahfuz. I was born in Bangladesh. After finishing high school, I went to the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology. During my 1st year, I obtained a Monbukagakusho scholarship from the Japanese government to pursue my undergraduate studies in Japan. I left my university and came to Japan in April 2003. Since then, I have been living in Japan. I received my B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. from Kyoto University, Kyoto, Japan, in 2009, 2011, and 2014, respectively. I am an Associate Professor at the Department of Information and Communications Engineering at Tokyo Institute of Technology. I am married and have two daughters. I like reading books, gardening, playing chess and cricket, and traveling in my leisure time.

I enjoy discussing philosophy and am eager to learn the great stories of humankind. I believe that most humans in this world are good, decent people with good hearts. I also think that we are all connected. Humans are one big family, and every bit of happiness and suffering affects us in one way or another.

In my research, I want to develop original ideas and new interpretations rather than increase papers. I want to work with bright students who can enjoy their development during the research process. I encourage students to become independent and apply themselves fully. I emphasize developing writing abilities, communication and presentation skills, and thinking out of the box in my group. It is challenging to do something different from others. It may take some time, but it is so fulfilling and satisfying. Contact me if you want to join my group or do collaborative research.
